Playground Safety Surfacing
PlayGuard tiles are manufactured in the U.S.A. from the highest quality SBR tire rubber mixed with colorful, UV-resistant EPDM granules made on a ColorMill™ line. The result is a rubber of uniform quality and density ideal for playground surfacing and rooftop applications. It provides a clean and safe alternative to wood and rubber mulch. With 24 standard color options, four thicknesses, and indoor-outdoor capability, PlayGuard is the most versatile rubber flooring solution for today’s playgrounds. Our Wa
PlayGuard Surfacing Safety
Children's safety at play is a concern we all share. PlayGuard tiles are 3rd party certified by IPEMA a nonprofit organization that provides the services to help manufacturers of U.S. and Canadian public play equipment and U.S. public play surfacing materials to improve the quality of children’s play and playgrounds. The use of the IPEMA Certification Seal displayed on our homepage signifies we have received written validation from the independent laboratory that our PlayGuard tiles conform to the requirements of ASTM F1292-04. What about INTERLOCKING tiles?
On the PLAYGROUND this sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately, the seams must still be sealed, which really negates the simplicity of interlocking installation. With extreme swings in the temperature there will be changes to the rubber materials. As the tiles expand and contract there is too much pressure placed on the interlock tabs and these LOCKS break. Smaller dimensions and pieces of rubber also change shape differently from a large and more dense piece of material. These small tabs can then become a dangerous trip hazard and continue to decline in value and safety. There are several manufactures that promote this interlocking tile well. Consider the age of the manufacturing company, the warranty, and specific applicability to your situation. Convenience and selling points may not always be for the best! One competitor has developed a new interlocking tile that uses an even SMALLER interlocking tab. With only a few colors to choose from, we are sure you will recognize the difference!
Pigmented Tiles
The traditional pigmented line of PlayGuard playground safety surfacing is available in four thicknesses (1", 2 ½", 3 ¾" and 4 ¼”), each rated for a specific critical fall height. The 24" x 24", modular tiles are designed and thoroughly tested to withstand years of vigorous play. Offered in four standard colors.
PlayGuard Ultra
PlayGuard Ultra boasts a 3mm patented, premanufactured top wear layer that lends itself to limitless design possibilities. This unique wear layer in combination with the design of our time-tested, 24" x 24" pigmented tiles, offers an eye-catching look with superior shock absorption, long-term durability and easier maintenance.

Fun Facts
One 36″ car tire equals 20 square feet of rubber surfacing
PlayGuard safety surfacing can potentially contribute toward earning up to 8 LEED points
Each year, ECORE recycles over 80 million pounds of scrap tire rubber, saving over 1 million barrels of oil and keeping over 2,000 trailer loads of discarded tires out of our nation’s landfills.
The amount of tires and oil conserved by ECORE each year is equal to the amount of energy consumed for the annual heating of 600 homes!
It takes half a barrel of crude oil to produce the rubber for just one truck tire.
Producing one pound of recycled rubber versus one pound of new rubber requires only 29% of the energy
